And finally we will ask, 'For whom are we praying when we say these words' 1. Then we will inquire what it means to hallow that name. ' First we will review what this name is that we are to hallow. Here let me give what I understand to be the spiritual sense of the Lord’s Prayer: The text for this morning is the very familiar: 'Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Our Master said, “After this manner therefore pray ye,” and then he gave that prayer which covers all human needs. Our father which art in Heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven For thine is thy kingdom The power and the glory For ever and ever amen For thine is thy kingdom The power and the glory For ever. The King James version quoted above does make reference to ‘Our Father which art in heaven’, but this is because the translators expanded the actual words of the prayer, incorporating those found in Matthew: many translations follow the original Greek more closely, stating: ‘Father, Hallowed be thy name.
