My complete show now includes live musicians, immersive performers and visuals, as well as me DJing and MCing. I started combining World music against a backdrop of Electronic dance music thereby keeping alive the traditional sounds. I heard flutes in Rajasthan that reminded me of Romanian flutes, and accordions in France that reminded me of the accordions played back home. During my travels, I noticed the similarities between the traditional instruments from my country and the instruments of other countries. Djing at Balkaneasca night - picture taken by Hugh Fox This opened a new door for me and I was invited to DJ around the world. After this, came Super Mishto- my own nights in Brighton, in 2010, where I became the DJ combining global electronic music with Balkan and Swing.

And then I started collecting more Balkan music, and these evolved into Balkan dance parties culminating in Balkaneasca nights, in 2008. In 2000, I travelled through Asia, where, by day, I trained as a yoga teacher and by night I was a DJ.īack in England, I was given an album with Balkan music by a Romanian band called Fanfare Ciocarlia and I started playing it at dinner parties and people loved the gypsy style. I started making mix tapes and was invited to play at private parties. Transilvania - picture by Catalin Caciuc I love DJing because playing music creates an environment for dance and movement to happen. Download Nelly Ciobanu - Hora din Moldova Original Version.
